Hypnotherapy in Bristol at the Chiron Centre
What is hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a very pleasant state of deep relaxation, the depth of which varies from person to person. It is a perfectly safe, natural state to be in and we dip in and out of it on a daily basis; for example when you are reading a good book and fail to hear someone speaking to you because you are focused on what you are reading. The client is aware of his/her surroundings at all times and could return to conscious awareness at any point if wished. There is no set way to feel whilst under hypnosis; however you feel at any point is right for you. But you will feel mentally refreshed and energised afterwards.
What hypnosis is not
Hypnosis is not sleep and you cannot get stuck in it or be coerced into doing or thinking anything against your will. You are in control of you all the time.
What is hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy allows the therapist to access a client’s subconscious mind during relaxation in order to find the root cause of a problem and to help the client change his/her associated negative or limiting patterns of thinking and behaving. Dealing with the subconscious mind in this way is unique to hypnotherapy. Whilst it may involve some discussion of the past, it is not usually in great depth or for long periods.
Why might I need hypnotherapy?
The world we live in today is particularly stressful and pressured for many people, with the pace of change accelerating all the time. This, combined with negative experiences in life, can often result in anxieties, large or small, which affect people’s lives adversely. Hypnotherapy helps people to overcome their anxieties, as well as working in areas such as increasing confidence and improving performance in sports or examinations. Research shows that a high proportion of illnesses are caused by, or exacerbated by, stress and anxiety.
What symptoms might it help?
It can help with the following symptoms and more:
- Childbirth relaxation
- Confidence building
- Exam/test nerves
- Goal achievement
- Life coaching
- Low moods
- Pain control
- Panic attacks
- Public speaking & presentations
- Relationship/sexual problems
- Self esteem
- Smoking cessation
- Sports performance
- Weight loss
Who might benefit from hypnotherapy?
Anyone who needs to change his or her thinking, perspective or behaviour for any reason can benefit from hypnotherapy. It should be noted though that the client needs to really want to change and to be keen to work with the therapist. Hypnotherapy will not help people with mental disorders or people who are under the influence of drink or drugs during the session. It is also sensible to gain your doctors approval for symptoms which may have a medical origin such as: depression, pain control, or weight management.
What happens during sessions and how much do they cost?
Many hypnotherapists provide an initial free session to discuss symptoms and explain how hypnotherapy will help.
Each session thereafter lasts for an hour and tends to be half discussion and half hypnosis. Sessions are often weekly but they can be further apart if necessary especially after the first few sessions.
Clients are often given a relaxation cd to help them relax at home.
On average problems such as:
- straightforward phobias are generally treated in say three sessions
- confidence building may take around six sessions
- long standing depression may need eight – ten sessions.
It depends on the individual – each client is unique, so sessions are tailor made to suit them.
Remember hypnotherapy sessions can help to enhance the quality of your life – a short term investment for a long term benefit. Do come and see us at the Chiron Centre in Bristol.
